Less busywork.More business.

chikin studio is a micro technology studio for startups and businesses in Vancouver. We find what's slowing your business down, then build the website or tool that clears it out of the way.

How we build.

Technology should help your business, not become another thing to manage. Four rules on every project.

01

Find the real problem

We start with how your business runs, not a feature list. What's eating your time, and what is it costing you?

02

Build only what helps

Sometimes it's a website, sometimes a custom tool, sometimes something you already pay for. We build the smallest thing that solves it.

03

Fit how you work

Built around your team and your customers, so nobody has to change how they work to use it.

04

Stay out of the way

Simple to run, cheap to host, easy to change. It should leave you with less to manage, not more.

Work with us.

Every project starts with the problem, not the product. Each build comes with a custom CMS and a plan for using it, whether the goal is more revenue or lower costs.

More revenue

Get found, get understood, get booked. A site and custom CMS built around how you sell, plus a plan for what to publish, what to measure and what to change.

The labs.

Our own experiments. Each one started as a problem we had ourselves.

Hakobiya trip request board
EXP-01Live beta

Hakobiya

Problem
Group trips end in a chaotic “can you grab me X?” chat.
Experiment
One shared request board instead. Friends post what they want, the traveler ticks it off as they shop.

Daybook

Problem
Instagram felt too public for documenting a son's life.
Experiment
A private photo journal. Grandparents get a link that works without an account.

Dragonfruit

Problem
Baby food trackers ignore congee, tofu and bok choy.
Experiment
A tracker that treats them as first-class foods, with quick logging and allergen tracking.

Hono blog template

Problem
There was no simple personal blog template for Hono.
Experiment
samchan.ca was built in 72 hours on Hono and Cloudflare Workers, then open-sourced so anyone can fork it.

Couchside

Problem
Party games make everyone download an app or sign up before anyone can play.
Experiment
Guests scan a QR code, answer on their phones, then vote together at the TV. No app, no accounts, and it runs on Cloudflare's free plan.

Questions, answered.

The things people usually ask on the first call.

How much does it cost?

Every project is different, so there's no price list. Once we understand the problem, you get a quote for your case before any work starts.

Do I actually need a new website or app?

Maybe not. We look at the problem first. If a tool you already have can do the job, we'll say so.

Will my team be able to use it?

That's the point. It's built around how your team already works, so it saves time from day one instead of adding training and workarounds.

What kinds of problems do you solve?

Customers who can't find or book you, teams buried in spreadsheets and admin, and tools that don't talk to each other. Clinics, associations and small businesses, mostly.

Who actually builds it?

Sam Chan, directly. No handoffs.

Do you work outside Vancouver?

Yes. We're based in Vancouver and work with teams anywhere.

Who's behind it.

chikin is a micro studio built by Sam Chan. It pairs 15 years of advising and working with startups, incubators and technology with hands-on experience in workflow operations and product building, using AI to clear the roadblocks that slow businesses down.

chikin started by trading sneakers, collectibles and digital art, and that background is a staple behind everything Sam builds today. First it has to work, then it has to be easy to use, and last, it has to look good.
